I think the age of downloadable executables is going to end. The future
is going to be for web application. My website is an alternative to an
executable application that is available for mac computers called
delicious monster (http://www.delicious-monster.com).
Let me explain what I am providing for free.
If you go to the main page of my website www.gurulib.com you can signup
and you will be allowed to choose an username and password to log on to
the library. Once you log in with your username/password to the main
library you can create shelfs just like in your home and then start
filling them up with your books/movies etc. Normal applications for
book cataloging requires you to enter all information like its title,
author, genre, description etc. The advantage that I provide is that
you dont have to type in all the information for the book. Instead if
you have the ISBN/UPC code which is normally at the back of the book,
my website can retreive all the relevant information about the book
automatically from the internet. I have written some PHP scripts that
will read from online free book resources and parse the information
from them about the books title, front cover image, author, genre,
description and for movies a trailer etc. To do this once you have
logged on to your library using the username/password, click on the
"Add Item" button which allows 3 options to enter your information.
1. Using ISBN/UPC code
2. In case you dont have ISBN/UPC code, click on the search tab and
type in the title or author name on the text box and I will search the
internet for the book which you can then select.
3. The third option is the manual entry and is the least preffered.
Once you have all your books added to your library, you can tell your
friends about it by just sending them the link like
http://www.gurulib.com/username just like I send my library in this
post as http://www.gurulib.com/coolabcgirl
Your friends can write reviews about your book and the website will
also show how many other gurulib users shares the books that you have.
I hope I explained what I am providing for free. I will be happy if you
need some clarification.
Thanks and Regards
