[OT] How different Linux distos respond differently to security vulns

de Craig 02/25/2008 04:00

Interesting story on distrowatch;

Using a recent security vulnerability found in many Linux kernels as an
illustration, the author shows that the response to security
issues by the Linux community varies widely (and wildly) from
near-immediate to "who knows." A nice chart is included, showing the
response time to this particular vulnerability by some of the more
popular distos. An excerpt:

> Nowadays, many popular distributions don't publish security
> advisories. This is especially true for community projects and
> desktop distributions, many of which just don't have the manpower to
> publish formal announcements.

I'd recommend this for those of us who are looking to move away from
MS-OS platforms.

fyi,
