This doesn't surprise me since Google has a major stake in Firefox.

As a user of Firefox & Opera, I use Firefox on 1 comp & Opera on the
other comp (since the other comp can't run Firefox even though it meets
the requirements), I think that this is a bad idea because if FF
becomes more popular then IE, it will get attacked by the hackers.

Hackers are attacking IE because it is the most popular web browser but
if FF becomes the most popular, it will become the victim of the same
attacks that IE is getting because hackers attack the popular web
browsers.
