Depending on which distribution you chose, 2G to 5G would be a minimum.
Anything beyond that would be available for data.

If you plan on doing much with it, you'll probably want at least 10G.
That will give you plenty of elbow room.

If you want to dual boot with Windows or otherwise multiboot, you should
start with 20G.

When the time comes, post a rundown of your hardware and we can advise
you better. To run the latest full-featured distros, you want at least
512MB RAM.
