Why do you think Google is offering all these free web services? Don't
you realize that their goal is to overthrow Microsoft, and set up a web
based world wide computer network in which your box will go back to being
a dumb terminal, useless without a connection to the Google services? Why
do you think they are collecting all this information about users? Why
did Steve Balmer vow to take Google out at any cost? Google does not
"appear" to be any threat to Microsoft.
Keep all your old software, especially freeware. Once you are tied into
web services, it will be hard to back away. What's free now might not be
tomorrow.
I agree with John, web services should be off topic here, free or not.
