My experience is much like yours, except for the part about finally
finding a distro that works well enough to use. I also started about a
decade ago - Red Hat 5, 5.1, 5.2, 6, 7.x, 8.x Caldera 2.x, Mandrake,
then LiveCDs, Knoppix, PCLinuxOS, Vector, Suse, Fedora, Puppy.

That's great, but most of us would like to be able to get from point A
to point B reliably by the fastest, most convenient, and/or most
affordable means.
