For me;
It helps to separate the message from the messenger. In this case, the
message being communicated is "Webware is OT." Whether the OP was
upset...<shrug>. I'd rather he weren't but...
So, the message is "Webware is OT."
In and of itself, I agree. And, as with any other OT discussion, it is
nice(tm) to mark it as such. For example, if I dare to talk webware or,
heaven forbid, get involved in a flame-war...I will want to mark it
[OT]. Jeff, if you need something and I've a list of 10 solutions, one
of which is a webware, I'll include it. But I'll make sure that it's
flagged appropriately. Because webware ain't freeware.
In short: When webware comes up, it should be flagged as such, hopefully
by the OP.
A word about the messenger...When John has jumped on a topic like this
in the past, he's been called a netcop, etc. As if this were a bad
thing. If it weren't John, I would hope others would step in to do
likewise because saying what freeware /is not/ is as important as saying
what it is. I'm glad he and people like him are in this group. Netcops?
Nah. These people are more like pitbulls...no, wait: Cerberus.
ACF's Cerberus guards against the escape of payware, shareware, webware,
etc from Hades. Every now and then a Persephone skips out but, heh, who
can resist a little springtime?
