How to get rid of flashing displays?

I have a genuine physical problem with web sites with flashing displays,
"You're a winner" etc. I don't mind the ad; it's the flashing I have
trouble with. It's very disturbing.
Is there some freeware that will leave up the ad, but eliminate the
flashing? I'm at the point where I'd rather miss the web page than endure
the flashing.
