Using KPF 2.1.5 with WinXP Media Center here.
The Security Center window shows "Firewall - NOT MONITORED" The text
says: "You've told us you're running a firewall that you will monitor
yourself. To help protect your computer against viruses and other
security threats, make sure that your firewall is turned on or turn on
Windows Firewall."
As you say, it's not that the OP is unprotected. IMHO it's just the
M$ way of pushing it's own firewall.
Since I'm behind a NAT router, Windows Firewall wouldn't do anything
for me anyway. I run Kerio simply to keep an eye on OUTBOUND traffic,
and I use Avast! for antivirus. Throw in Spybot and Ad-Aware (and
some common sense "Safe Hex,") and that's about as much protection
that's needed for a home system that's not accessed from outside.
