Make an image of the partition where you have the operating system.
Use the freeware "Partition Saving" for example.
With the lowest degree of compression it reduces the site to half of
the content, choose save only used sectors.

This works well unless you have everything on one big partition, that
means you have only a C: disk in your computer and no D: hard disk
partition.

I have a couple of win98se systems saved, and two win2000pro systems,
and one image of an empty C: partition.

So I can easily restore these operating systems whenever I want.
It takes 2-3 minutes to restore any of these systems, including all
settings, drivers, programs, etc..

Even if you have only one big partition you can back it up this way
too,but you need free space enough to save the image of the used
sectors, of course.
