Dude;
It is impossible to "take neither side" if you're the one who is trying
to define the sides. To characterize Corliss' presence as "divisive"
/is/ taking sides. It's called "framing the argument." The adjective,
as defined in the two dictionaries I bothered to look, is marbled with
negative connotations.
Or, to put it another way, does annointing yourself as "lurker" really
make your opinion "fair?" Or just more rarely heard?
I dunno...maybe you mean something like "lightening rod?" I can get
behind *that* one!
