You know what I did last night? I installed Windows 2000 Pro on my
computer. For the first time I have installed and used a later
microsoft system than win98se which I have used for years.
I still don't know if I am going to continue using it. I have saved
ghost images of win98se in different stages, a pure quick version, and
the full system I used yesterday, and I also made an image of a totally
empty drive, so I can restore the emptyness without having to delete
everything.
After installing win2000pro and some drivers, and some setting up of
preferences, I also made an image of that, so I can restore whatever
system I like to use.
One of the reasons I took the step to win2kpro is that I bought an usb
mp3 player, and found that win98se is known for its instability with
usb connections like mp3 players. It often locked up, and really long
mp3 songs could not be transferred.
Now it is rock steady, and I could easily copy Jimi Hendrix, Red House,
the long live version, 12 minutes, to my mp3 player.
A lot of software also demands higher windows versions than 98se.
Soon we will have very good Linux systems, so I am sure this is the
last microsoft system I will have to use.
Mepis live CD is already good enough for general use of computers. I
just happen to have a lot of old DOS and windows stuff I still want to
play with.
